Friends and colleagues gather in NY and DC for Rita: A Memoir book launch

Friends and colleagues gathered in New York on Friday to share memories of Rita O’Hare. The US book launch of Rita: A Memoir was a celebration of Rita’s life, work, family, and dedication to the cause of Irish peace, justice, and unity.

Dozens of people met at Bobby Van’s to get their hands on a copy of the book and to swap stories about Rita’s time and work in the United States. People traveled from all over the tri-state area to be a part of the event.

Rita served as Sinn Féin’s Representative to the United States for more than 20 years and made many friends and strong connections along the way.

Joe Smith, a longtime friend of Rita’s, hosted the event and many people spoke about some of their favorite stories. Marty Glennon, Rosaleen Doherty, Deirdre Freerick, Patricia Smith, Cairan Staunton, Sean Downes, current Sinn Féin Representative to North America, Cairán Quinn, and many others shared memories and Jenny Glennon did a reading from the book.

On Thursday, September 19th , friends and former colleagues of Rita’s gathered to share stories and memories of working with her. She spent so much time on Capitol Hill and made so many life-long connections. Congressmen Richard Neal of Massachusetts spoke of their work together and the many delegation trips to Ireland. LUINA President Emeritus Terry O’Sullivan shared touching and funny stories and work together.

The book, Rita: A Memoir, will be available to purchase from Friends of Sinn Féin soon. Details will first be released in our newsletter.
