Irish Unity Begins with Us – Join the Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation Dinner in NYC

By Brendan McGovern

This April, Irish America has a chance to do more than celebrate heritage—we have a chance to act.

On April 22, 2025, the Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation will host its annual Chieftain’s Dinner in New York City. With Kathleen Funchion, MEP, as the Guest Speaker, this evening will bring together those who believe – as Martin McGuinness did – that a new and united Ireland is not only possible, but necessary.

This is more than a dinner. It’s a gathering of like-minded people ready to make an impact. It’s a space where we will talk, listen, and organize—because unity doesn’t happen by chance. It happens when people come together and decide to make it so.

A Moment of Urgency – and Opportunity

The demand for Irish unity is growing louder across the island. We see it in shifting demographics, in Sinn Féin’s growing mandate, and in the disillusionment caused by Brexit. But momentum needs movement.

That’s where Irish America comes in.

We’ve always played a powerful role – from pushing the U.S. to support the Good Friday Agreement, to helping keep Ireland’s struggle for justice on the international agenda. And now, in this pivotal moment, we must raise our voices again.

Economic Unity Makes Sense

A united Ireland is not just a political aspiration – it’s an economic imperative. Partition has created duplication, inefficiencies, and inequality. The North is held back by a lack of economic sovereignty and direct London control over its finances.

Meanwhile, studies continue to show that unification would bring substantial economic benefits:

Unity is not a burden. It’s an opportunity to finally realize the full potential of an island working together, not divided by a border imposed by colonial rule.

    Let’s Come Together

By attending the Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation Dinner, you’re not just honoring the past. You’re stepping into the future of a united Ireland. You’ll hear from Kathleen Funchion, MEP, and others who are on the front lines of this historic movement—and you’ll be surrounded by people who, like you, believe that Irish America has a role to play.

You’ll leave inspired – and equipped – with real ways to help build political momentum, apply pressure to elected leaders, and keep unity at the center of our conversations here in the U.S.

Come. Listen. Speak. Organize. The path to a united Ireland runs through gatherings like this – and it begins with people like you.
